To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Technische Universität München, Jürgen Richter-Gebert has developed an interactive iOS app, offering an entertaining and informative tour round the 14 faculties of the TU München. Based on this, Aaron Montag has developed a Web- and Android version.
The visualisations in the app were created using the Cinderella/CindyJS framework, an authoring system for the interactive visualisation of mathematics-related coherencies. The framework CIndyJS has been developed by Jürgen Richter-Gebert and his team, who are involved in the visualisation project Z02 of the SFB/TRR 109 "Discretization in Geometry and Dynamics“. The framework is also used for visualisations within the DGD group, some of which can be seen on this website. Visualisations which require intensive use of the graphic card have been created with the plugin CindyGL, developed by Aaron Montag.
The TUM interactive app gives insight into each of the 14 TUM faculties, using interactive animations, simulations, games or puzzles to make the topics accessible for everyone. A virtual wind tunnel, simulations of fish swarms or a code-breaker puzzle are just a few visualisations in which you become the researcher. In this way, the app is not a scientific treatise, but rather more like a coffee-table book, in which to browse, discover, and return to again and again.
